Where our information comes from

Our catalog combines hand-reviewed editorial entries, public-domain information from Wikidata, and open municipal pet-license records. City data is used as a popularity signal—not as proof that a name is popular everywhere. When an article discusses a dataset, we explain its scope and limitations rather than presenting a local sample as a worldwide census.

How names and articles are reviewed

Names are checked for a usable spelling, a defensible origin or meaning when one is listed, and a genuine connection to any assigned theme. Articles are written to answer a specific naming question, then reviewed for clarity, internal consistency, and links to relevant names, themes, or data pages on this site. We update an article when its facts or source data materially change and show the updated date on the page.

What we do not claim

Naming is personal. Our generator and guides offer ideas, not rules. We do not provide veterinary, behavioral, or legal advice, and we avoid pretending that popularity automatically makes a name right for your cat.
